  1. Sweetie, I commend your feelings and effort, but You need to call animal control in your town and let them come and get the baby.  Either that or call the animal center and see if they will come get the baby.  Plus, because the birds are wild animals, you need a special permit to care for them.  Most of us have trouble specially with babies this size.  Good luck.

  2. There are several things you can do.

    1) find a wickerlike basket.  Use wire (like pipecleaner or something similiar) to attach it to the tree where you found the nest in.  Make it high enough so your cat can't reach it.  If this is out of the question, place it in another sheltered and well-protected area where the parents will find the young.

2)Phone the nearest wildlife rehab center.  Some centers are willing to pick up any animal in distress if you are incapable of bringing the birds to their facility.

    3) Robins are big nightcrawler/earthworm eaters.  They eat on a diet nearly consisted entirely of earthworms.  You can purchase these earthworms at a fishing shop--but you may need to cut them in pieces to make them small enough for the young to eat.

4)Either way, place the birds in a basket.  This will imitate the shape of their nest, and they will feel more comfortable.  Do not place rags or towels in it, becase the birds' claws may snag on the towels.  Use cloth or flannel instead.  Make sure that you place the basket on newspaper or something similiar, because the birds will back up to excrete their waste over the side of the basket.

    5) They will need around the clock attention.  When their mouths start gaping, feed them until they stop.

Best of luck with your new houseguests,
