Ahmad Shabery Cheek urges BAM and Misbun Sidek to work together for better results in Olympic Games
Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister, wants the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and former national coach, Misbun Sidek, to work together for producing better results in the 2012 Olympic Games. He said that World Number One, Lee Chong Wei, needs help from both to win the title at the mega event.
Chong Wei needs advice from his former coach, Misbun, in a bid to win the Men’s Singles title, which will help him to overcome China’s Lin Dan and Chen Long in his road to glory.
Misbun left the national setup on December 31, 2010, because of a few disputes with BAM. One year is almost over and now the top seed wants Misbun back in the set up for his better preparation for the Olympic Games.
Shabery wants the governing body and the former coach to put aside their personal disputes and come forward to work for the welfare of badminton in Malaysia. He also expressed that it is the time to move on together as it is the need of the hour and for the development of the game in the country.
He said, "This is not about anyone's personal pride. Misbun may feel apprehensive about coming back and BAM may feel that such a move would be swallowing their pride but what is important is the country's badminton."
He also revealed that Chong Wei wants to take help from the former coach to prepare well in all aspects of the game. Taking guidance from Misbun is expected to boost his confidence and can help him to overcome his quivering performance at the moment.
Shabery wants Misbun and BAM to work together at this time and forget about who is right and who is wrong.
He said, "The issue now is not about who is right or who is wrong or whose pride it is going to affect. For the sake of the country, there must be room for talks to find a formula that can benefit. Our main objective is to see Chong Wei a gold medal in the Olympics."
If Misbun comes back to train Chong Wei, the chances of his success will be quite high as he has been producing superb results from the shuttler for more than five years.
