Ahmed Al Musharrekh on an inconsistent path – Golf News
UAE's congenial young amateur, Ahmed Al Musharrekh, took a leave from his university to participate in the European Tour events in January and February this year.
He first participated in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship held in the last week of January and missed the cut.
He scored 82 and 80 in the initial two rounds to finish 18-over par overall score.
It was not a good enough score to place his name among the players who made it through to the final two rounds.
After that, he entered the golf course after 2 weeks at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and started off his round well on the Emirates Golf Club. In the early front nine, he managed under-par score.
However, he again did what he called "a few amateurish mistakes" and finished four-over par 76.
“This tournament has been a more relaxed atmosphere; it just feels a lot more natural,” he said. “On the first tee, I felt a little pressure, but I hit it good - straight down the middle - and then the pressure was pretty much gone”.
“I was playing the golf that I wanted and had a lot of birdies out there, but the mistakes I made were just silly; you can't do that at events likes this,” he added.
He mixed four birdies with six bogeys and a double bogey on the par-four ninth and again displayed an inconsistent game in the end.
According to the 21-year-old Musharrekh, he has learned a lot from the experienced and top-ranked players who participated in Abu Dhabi and this week’s Dubai Classic.
Woods’ participation in the Abu Dhabi event helped him build his morale as he was playing against a legend of golf.
Moreover, Dubai Desert Classic is also featuring some of the big names of golf these days, such as the world number two Rory McIlroy, world number three Lee Westwood, world number four Martin Kaymer and some other names too.
Therefore, at a very early age, he got a chance to compete in a tense environment and figure out what goes wrong whenever he sets foot on the course.
With a little concentration and consistency, he can definitely bring huge changes in the events he will participate in.
