Ahmed Mathlouthi claims Men’s 200m freestyle title: Day one – 2011 All Africa Games
Day one of the 2011 All Africa Games saw an impressive performance of Ahmed Mathlouthi at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Monday, September 5, 2011. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 200m freestyle final race.
In the corresponding splash, Mathlouthi of Tunisia impressed the arena and took home the second gold medal for his nation by posting a winning time of 1 minute and 48.95 seconds. After the race, Mathlouthi was excited and pleased with his individual swim
in the meet. In the meantime, Darian Townsend of South Africa earned silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 1 minute and 49.04 seconds. While speaking about his swim, Townsend said that it was a tough splash for him but he was satisfied
with the result.
Last, but not the least, Jean Basson snared the bronze medal of the platform after he touched the finishing blockade and ended his swim to post a matchless time of 1 minute and 51.06 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe took home the Women’s 400m Individual Medley crown with a victorious mark of 4 minutes and 44.34 seconds. After the swim, Coventry took a huge sigh of relief due to her impressive swim. In the corresponding
race, Kathryn Meaklim of South Africa earned silver title after she touched the finishing wall and put up a winning time of 4 minutes and 46.33 seconds.
Additionally, Bianca Meyer clinched the bronze medal on the podium by posting an immaculate time of 4 minutes and 51.20 seconds. Moreover, Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa secured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m breast-stroke final with a victorious
time of 1 minute and 02.44 seconds. Wassim Elloumi of Tunisia snagged silver medal on the podium after he touched the finishing wall and posted a perfect time of 1 minute and 03.17 seconds.
The crowd enjoyed the performances of all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades at the end of the competition.
