Ahmed Mathlouthi secures Men’s 800m freestyle title: Day two – 2011 All Africa Games
Day two of the 2011 All African Games ended with the matchless swim of Tunisian athlete, Ahmed Mathlouthi, at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Tuesday, September 6. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 800m freestyle and 50m
breast-stroke finals.
At the beginning, the Men’s 800m freestyle title was taken over by Tunisia’s Ahmed Mathlouthi with a winning time of 8 minutes and 10.00 seconds. In the corresponding race, Mark Randall of South Africa captured the silver medal on the podium by posting a
riveting time of 8 minutes and 10.04 seconds, whereas, Jasper Venter of South Africa took home the bronze medal in the platform by submitting an impressive time of 8 minutes and 21.76 seconds.
Meanwhile, Abdelghani Nefsi of Algeria earned fourth place honours with an intriguing time of 8 minutes and 29.03 seconds and Niyomugabo Jackson of Rwanda rounded out the top-five in a time of 12 minutes and 00.80 seconds.
Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa snared the Men’s 50m breast-stroke crown on the podium by posting a winning time of 27.81 seconds. The effort of van der Burgh was short of his previous best meet record of 27.74 seconds, set back at the 2007 edition
of the meet. In the corresponding swim, Malick Fall of Senegal hit the wall in 28.33 seconds to win silver title.
Algeria's Nabil Kebbab captured bronze medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time of 28.71 seconds. Wassim Elloumi of Tunisia was placed fourth with a mark of 28.88 seconds, while Timothy Ferris of Zimbabwe earned fifth place honours in a time
of 29.36 seconds.
Thabang Moeketsane of South Africa settled sixth with an exciting time of 29.89 seconds. James Lawson of Zimbabwe was placed seventh in the respective meet with a finishing time of 30.02 seconds. Last, but not the least, Eric Williams of Nigeria finished
eighth in a time of 30.18 seconds.
The arena gave a huge round of applause to all the participants for their stunning performances, while the winners were awarded accolades after the session’s completion.
