Pakistan Cricket Board has refuted rumours that opener Ahmed Shehzad was dropped from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 series and forthcoming T20 World Cup on disciplinary grounds.
"There is no disciplinary issue with Shehzad's selection. Neither has the national team manager, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naved-Iqbal-Cheema-c78897 lodged any report against him," a PCB official said.
Some eye catching performances in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 series.
But his omission for the coming series and the World Cup has given rise to rumours that he was discarded not because of his mixed performances in the 2 T20s played against Sri Lanka, but on disciplinary issues.
"Shehzad has been dropped purely for cricketing reasons as the selectors felt that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Nazir-c64248 deserved a chance to make a comeback after his recent performances," said the PCB official.
The 20-year-old Shehzad was the highest scorer in the first T20 against Sri Lanka at Hambantota with 36 runs, but his efforts could not prevent Pakistan from a 37-run defeat. He scored 6 runs in the next match, again played at Hambantota, which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
went on to win by 23 runs.
The source further revealed that the national selection committee, in consultation with the captain and coach, selected the team for the two coming assignments. And it was only after Captain Mohammed Hafeez’s intervention that Nazir got the selection nod
ahead of Shehzad.
“It was on Hafeez’s insistence that the selectors agreed to include Nazir instead of Shehzad as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasir-Jamshed-c78752 was a automatic choice of both the selectors and the team management,” the source said.
Lahore born Shehzad, who has so far played 8 T20s for Pakistan, has scored 145 runs at an average of 18.12 of with a strike rate of 105.83.
He plays for Barisal Burners, and was the highest runs scorer with 486 runs from 12 innings in the inaugural edition of BPL. Beside scoring 4 fifties, he scored a century as well.
Imran Nazir has represented Pakistan in T20s on 16 occasions, and scored 324 runs at 23.14 runs per innings with a strike rate of 137.87.
Gujranwala born Nazir played for BPL champions, Dhaka Gladiators, and was the highest run scorer for his team with 390 runs, that included 4 fifties.
