Ahmed Zayat colt Nehro not to take part in Preakness Stakes
The reunion of Animal Kingdom and Nehro will not take place in the Preakness Stakes, as Nehro will not be a part of the Run for the Black eyed Susans.
The decision was taken in light of the fact that the colt has had a tough schedule in Spring. His owner decided to relieve the colt from running in the Preakness Stakes, which is to be held on May 21, 2011. He is owned by Ahmed Zayat.
Had he raced in the Preakness Stakes he would have made the fourth start in eight weeks. Brad Weisbord, Zayat’s racing manager spoke on this “Four races in eight weeks’ time seems like a little much, and it’s hard because the horse is doing so well, Mr.
Zayat’s thought is that he wants to be super cautious with this colt because he’s really looking forward to the rest of the year”.
Nehro was runner up in the Kentucky Derby. Animal Kingdom won the 2011 Kentucky Derby.
Ahmed Zayat raced Pioneer of the mile in the 2009 Kentucky Derby, Pioneer of the mile stood second in that race. He was made to race in the Preakness Stakes as well, where he managed to get eleventh position.
Pioneer of the mile did not race after Preakness Stakes. The fear that Nehro might not be able to race again may have forced owner Zayat to make him skip the Preakness Stakes.
Zayat intends to race Nehro in the final leg of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. Belmont Stakes is to take place on June 11, 2011. The colt is also to appear in the Haskell G-1. Nehro is sired by Mineshaft.
Zayat and his trainer, Steve Asmussen, watched Nehro breeze a half-mile in: 50 4/5 on May 16, 2011. The fractions posted by the colt were: 12 4/5 :25 2/5 and :37 4/5. He galloped the five furlongs in 1:05 1/5 over the sloppy track at Churchill Downs.
Before the Derby, Nehro participated in the Louisiana Derby on March 26, 2011. He was second in that race. The race was won by Pants On Fire. He also raced in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, he was second in that race as well. The race took place on April 16,
2011.
Zayat also owns the Jaycito, who is suffering from a foot problem. Jaycito did not make it to the Kentucky Derby because of the same lingering problem. Brad Weisbord reported that the horses will not race against each other in the Belmont Stakes.
Despite Nehro not participating in the $ 1,000,000 pursed event will still have 14 participants. This will be the third time since 1991 that 14 horses will run in the Preakness Stakes.
As for fans, who have their eyes doting on the Derby winner, Animal Kingdom will enter the Wednesday’s draw for post positions. His trainer, Graham Motion is concerned about the post position the horse will draw.
