Ai Goto clinches Women’s Singles title at 36th Yonex Polish International 2012 – Badminton news
Japan’s emerging shuttler Ai Goto delivered a spectacular performance and clinched Women’s Singles title after beating Turkey’s Neslihan Yigit in the final showdown of 36th Yonex Polish International 2012 in Poland, on Sunday, March 25.
Goto, who has been placed at number 19 in Women’s Singles world placements, proved her elite skills as she overpowered her gritty opponent Neslihan in a three-set contest.
The Japanese was top seed in the championship and lived up to expectations as she won the final contest by taking 38 minutes in the court.
In the opening rallies of first game, both ladies played positive badminton and remained close on the score board.
However, Goto started to manipulate loopholes of her opponent and established an amazing lead of 11-5 until the break.
The Turkish was lacking the finishing touch in her strokes and failed to stop the progressive run of her rival.
After the interval, Goto continued her dominating performance in the first set as she spared no chance for Neslihan to fight back in the game.
The top seed was in commanding position in first game and bagged it with an impressive margin of 21-9.
In the second set, Neslihan showed her brilliance as she played different game this time. She did not commit unforced errors and remained on driving seat until the interval.
At the end of first half, the lower ranked Turkish lady was ahead on the score board at 11-5.
On the other hand, Goto lost her focus in the game and also committed many mistakes. She failed to find her rhythm and lost the second set with a one-sided 12-21 score on the board.
In the deciding set, Goto geared up her speed and got a tremendous control of rallies as she put up superb show of top quality badminton and reached at 11-4 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the top seed did not drop her speed at any stage and easily bagged the final set with a fabulous margin of 21-7.
The Japanese emerged as the title winner by ending the final match with an interesting 21-9, 12-21 and 21-7 score on the board.
