Ai Goto crushes Christina Aicardi to secure a quarter-final berth at Peru International 2012
Japan’s talented player Ai Goto continued her winning streak as she secured a quarter-final berth after crushing Peru’s Christina Aicardi in the round-of-16 match at the XVII Peru International 2012 in Peru, on Thursday, April 12.
The in-form Goto, who has been placed at number 19 in the world and the top seed in Peru International, showed her elevated class as she did not face any considerable opposition in the pre-quarter-final contest and advanced into top-eight stage.
The top seeded Japanese lady impressed the crowd by playing fast and positive badminton against the home favourite Aicardi and bagged the contest in straight sets by working for 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Aicardi did her best to stop the progressive run of Goto but failed to cope up with the pace of rallies.
In the meanwhile, Goto played with tremendous precision in the opening half of first game and set up a remarkable lead on the board.
After the break, Goto continued playing in the same way as she did not let her rival to find a rhythm and maintained her upper hand in the game.
Aicardi tried to employ her aggressive skills but failed to destroy the defence of her opponent in the whole set.
The top seed remained positive in the whole opening game and took it with a comfortable 21-16 margin on the board.
In the second game, Goto kept the pace high from the starting rallies and remained in wonderful control. She played with variations and kept her opponent under pressure in the opening half.
Until the mid-game break in second game, the higher ranked Japanese set up a tremendous lead on the board.
After the break, Aicardi geared up her speed to take the bird timely but failed to control the pace and also could not place her strokes in targeted areas.
On the other hand, Goto was quite focused and she took the second set in a striking manner by a superb margin of 21-13.
Goto emerged as the winner in this 40-minute contest in straight sets with a convincing difference of 21-16 and 21-13.
