Ai Miyazato, defending champion of the Evian Masters tied at 28
Ai Miyazato, the defending champion of the Evian Masters was placed at the 28th position at the end of the second round. She scored 70 points.
This score is a slight improvement from 71, her score in the first round. She stands at a total score of 141. She is 9 strokes behind the leading player, Stacy Lewis, who is at 132 at this point.
What happened to Miyazato’s game this year? Before the start of the tournament, she was very confident of her chances in the event. She had found the event to be very relaxing and the venue, pleasant.
When asked in a pre-tournament talk about it, she responded, “It just feels like the atmosphere is probably different than other tournaments, it's nice and relaxed”.
This year she started off on a very bad note. The first round was a disaster with a score of 71. This score included four birdies and four bogeys. This performance was the main cause of the decline in Miyazato’s standing in the 2012 Evian Masters. She did
not recover from this at all.
The second round was marginally better. She shot 70 points that included four birdies and two bogeys. These two bogeys sealed the fate of Miyazato and put her in the 28th position.
With this performance, many experts have given up the hope of a successful defence of the title. They suggest that the performance of the last two rounds will be repeated in the third round.
Even if Miyazato manages to perform extraordinarily in the last round, she still will not have a chance of defending her title.
The high scores of the previous two rounds will take her down and her efforts will come to naught. Still, Miyazato will try her best to better her position in the final rankings.
This year, the title appears to be going into the hands of the American player, Stacy Lewis. She has been on top of her game lately and her performance in the first two rounds has been stellar. Close on her heels is the South Korean player Il Hee Lee, who
is a stroke behind.
