Ai Miyazato gains first-round lead at Honda LPGA Thailand
Ai Miyazato appeared completely fired up on the first day of Honda LPGA Thailand, as she carded an impressive 5-under 67 to seize the lead against her nearest rivals.
The event being played at Pattaya’s Siam Country Club is featuring a strong field comprising defending champion Yani Tseng and other key players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour.
Miyazato kicked off her round with plenty of confidence, producing a flawless score on the leaderboard. She appeared to be in a comfortable position with her putting and swing.
Miyazato reeled off 5 birdies and avoided making any bogey thanks to her calculated moves.
The weather at Siam Country Club was not so favourable, as strong winds swept through the course the whole day.
Despite humid conditions on the course, Miyazato did not once appear to be in trouble, as she played sensible strokes on almost all the holes.
Miyazato is playing among some of the big names in women’s golf. The most favourite player is Thai Yani Tseng, who won the tournament last.
Tseng is trying to defend her title, but according to the 1st round stats, she was far behind with a 73.
Miyazato is excited to play the tournament because he has been well aware of the field and the course. The 22-year-old Japanese won the 2010 Honda PTT LPGA Thailand in an impressive style.
She grabbed attention due to her skilful game, as she inflicted a one-shot defeat on Norway’s Suzann Pettersen.
Before playing the opening-season in 2010, Miyazato had been going good in the events. She was prominent in terms of money, as the Honda PTT LPGA victory gave her $195,000.
Thrilled by her second triumph on the LPGA Tour, Miyazato said that she did not think she would be able to make such a huge breakthrough.
The ongoing tournament at Pattaya proved just as good. Sharing her feeling with the media, the Japanese star said that her offseason helped her a lot in reshaping her game.
“I rested well this year. I went back home and spent a couple of weeks with my family. I saw my nieces and played with them together. So I had a really nice time when I was back with my family”.
