Ai Miyazato happy to be in Kingsmill Championship roster
Japanese Ai Miyazato looks all set to take on rivals at the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012, set to start from September 6-9 at Williamsburg, Virginia, with a formidable roster featuring prominent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
Miyazato spoke to the LPGA during her pre-tournament interview on Wednesday, saying she is pretty happy to be in the Kingsmill Championship roster.
She added that will capitalise on this opportunity to prove her mettle once again.
When asked what her strategy for the looming battle will be, the LPGA titan said she will make sure she stays patient throughout the four days of the tournament, as keeping momentum is the key to success at Kingsmill.
“It's nice to be back here, I just love this golf course and I just missing this tournament really bad. I feel really happy to be here,” Miyazato said.
She went on to say that the field is pretty solid, which will make it a little more challenging to score well early. The 27-year-old golfer said that in addition to a good roster, the course will also be making the match interesting, as she has always liked to play here.
“The golf course is in good shape and I had a practice round yesterday and the day before, and I played pro‑am today. The greens are beautiful. The course is in good shape. It's really fun to play,” she shared.
Miyazato is one of most natural, strong golfers who have a great mix of strength and resilience at this stage of their professional career.
The Japanese star appears to have advanced faster than expected after clinching her first LPGA title at the Evian Masters in 2009.
Although Miyazato has never gained the hype that stars like Yani Tseng and American Stacy Lewis have, she has played well every step of the way, since she joined professional golf back in 2004.
Observers have said the rising star — despite not being able to grab the top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings — does have above-average putting skills and can be a solid scorer in a fearsome roster.
Speaking of her solid start in the 2012 season that has seen her win two tournaments, Miyazato said that the success has kept her going and she looks forward to doing the same this week as well.
