Ai Miyazato performs well in current season, but yet to win a major title
Having won two Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) titles in the 2012 season, Japanese Ai Miyazato is giving most of the big names a hard time, and it is fair to say the star golfer has become the most
talented player in Japan.
Although Miyazato has tumbled to the sixth position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, she is capable of shaping and finding her way to the top of the Tour.
The fast-learning Japanese has already put together quite a solid profile heading into the ongoing Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, clinching a total of nine LPGA victories so far.
In addition to making a name for herself on the LPGA Tour, Miyazato has done well on other Tours as well. She has won two titles on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and fifteen on the LPGA of Japan Tour.
Despite possessing a solid profile and plenty of top-10 finishes in her pro career, Miyazato still has not been able to win a major title.
She came close to a victory in several major tournaments, but lucked out.
In the 2006 LPGA Championship, the Japanese prodigy showed her real skills on the course as she finished tied for the third position after posting an overall 281 along with Mi Hyun Kim of South Korea. Then
in the 2010 LPGA Championship, she displayed a superb performance, carding an overall 283 along with South Korean Jiyai Shin.
The 2009 Women’s British Open saw Miyazato shine once again. She looked unstoppable on the course but could not finish the even on top of the leaderboard. Miyazato came close to beating Scottish Catriona Matthew
as she registered a 289 along with three other contenders.
The LPGA phenom has put herself in a position to keep moving ahead, with victories at the LPGA Lotte Championship in April 2012 and Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in July.
Observers said that despite her amazing performance in most of the recent tournaments, it remains to be seen how Miyazato finishes the ongoing Navistar LPGA Classic 2012.
According to some, defending champion Lexi Thompson can trouble rivals this time as she has repeatedly vowed to do her best this time.
