Ai Miyazato racks up William and Mousie Powell Award
Japanese Ai Miyazato has won the William and Mousie Powell Award, in recognition of good sporting spirits she exhibited throughout the 2012 season.
The competition was tough as several players were shortlisted for the award, but Miyazato was finally chosen, keeping in view her good behaviour and an unmatched stature on the course.
The prestigious accolade—William and Mousie Powell—is typically awarded to a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) player who possesses good sporting spirits—and who sticks to the values
and guidelines laid out by the Tour.
Miyazato, who displayed a good performance at the season-ending CME Group Titleholders 2012 last week, has put together a solid resume, boasting nine LPGA wins.
Speaking to the media about her achievement in her latest interview, Miyazato said that she is extremely happy to be picked for the accolade and she will try to maintain that respect next
year as well.
The Japanese star said that it was surprising to her to win the award, as the LPGA lineup contains several good players who are much better than her in many ways. However, she extends her
thanks to those who supported her and put in a good word for her.
"I am truly honored to be named the winner of this prestigious award. It feels special to get voted on by my peers and I feel very proud to receive the award. I will continue to do the best
I can to represent the LPGA and show why it's different out here," said Miyazato who won two titles in 2012 season.
She went on to say that the Tour has now transformed into a varied global entity, featuring players from place as far as China, Japan and Taiwan.
“The LPGA is made up of many players from around the world with diverse personalities and styles, which makes this tour so original and appealing”.
The LPGA titan has been happy with her performance, as the 2012 season went better than she had hoped. She grabbed a whopping four-stroke victory at the LPGA Lotte Championship in April 2012.
She then headed to Arkansas in July to take part in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, where she beat fellow Japanese Mika Miyazato and Spanish Azahara Munoz by one stroke.
