Ai Miyazato regains momentum again
Japanese Ai Miyazato displayed a stellar performance at the CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she shot an overall score of 279 to take the fifth position on the leaderboard.
It was the scene of a tough battle in the last round at The TwinEagles Club, Naples, Florida, last Sunday, with most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars struggling
to make their mark in the season-ending tournament.
Miyazato kept on the safe side, as she made perfect strokes on almost all the holes, gradually moving up on the leaderboard.
Having got off to a sensible start to the four-day tournament that saw her shoot a 70 in the opening round, the Japanese star further boosted her position in the second round after she carded
a whopping 64.
A 64 in the second round was enough to spur her on, and she made the most of favourable weather conditions too.
However, Miyazato could not keep a grip on her club in the final round on Sunday as she posted a 74, taking a toll on her overall position.
Still, her efforts earned her a place inside the top 5—something her fans had been expecting since her last victory at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship in July this 2012.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the third round that witnessed her card a 71, the LPGA star said that she was focused on her short game, but there were some holes that troubled her.
She could not maintain her momentum on the front nine of the third round, as she carded one double bogey and one bogey.
“I think I shot 3‑over on the front nine. Then after No. 9 I said to my caddie, it was really hard work the 18th holes but now I think I'm ready for that, I'm ready to play good. I think that
conversation kind of helped,” said Miyazato who has notched up a total of nine LPGA titles since she turned professional in 2004.
“And No. 10 I made a birdie, it was kind of break point today.  Like I (indiscernible) myself and like I feel more relaxed and like trying to having fun more and I shot 4‑under on the back
nine and it feels good”.
