Ai Miyazato says she is eager to defend title at Evian Masters 2012
Defending Champion Ai Miyazato has said that she is more than happy to be at the Evian Masters 2012, and she seeks to impress her fans once again, continuing her winning streak at the tournament.
Miyazato, currently ranked fourth in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, is all set to defend her title at the 2012 edition of the Evian Masters, scheduled to be held from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France.
The Japanese star performed flawlessly in the last edition of the tournament, as she grabbed a two-stroke victory against American Stacy Lewis. This year, the field for the prestigious LPGA (Ladies Professional
Golf Association) event is quite tougher than the previous year, as there are plenty of players being regarded as the hot favourite for the coveted title.
The defending champion started the 2012 season quite successfully, as she has racked up two titles so far, and the victory at the coming tournament in France will earn her the third victory of the current year.
Up till now, Miyazato has proved that she is hard to predict. In the last few tournaments, the Japanese prodigy stunned her rivals as she beat the odds.
Speaking to the media just hours before the tournament in France, the 27-year-old star said that she is as confident as she was last year, and knows what to do to amaze the European spectators.
“It's always great to come back here. Winning last year was huge for me. It was my only win of the season and my first after the terrible earthquake in Japan that really affected me,” Miyazato said.
She went on to say that her almost-flawless performance in the current year is proving productive for her and she is taking her game more seriously now. “This year has been good. I've already won twice and
feeling very confident about my game. Evian has so many good memories for me. It's just the best place. So beautiful and it's the perfect venue for golf tournament, so it's always fun to stay here".
Analysts said that Asian players are likely to steal the show this year too, as the last three titles of the tournament were grabbed by them. With the current world number one Yani Tseng being regarded as the
strongest contender in the roster, it has become very important for American and European players to put their best feet forward when they face their rivals on Thursday.
