Ai Miyazato seeks to defend title at Evian Masters
The Evian Masters 2012 is going to start from July 26-29, at Evian-les-Bains, France, with a strong field that will also feature defending champion Ai Miyazato.
The prestigious tournament is going to pit top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders against each other, but the only player expected to grab most of the attention is Ai Miyazato.
Miyazato belongs to Japan, and has been playing amazingly well in the current season. She stunned her fans and rivals last season when she won the Evian Masters 2011.
Analysts said that it will not be easy for Miyazato to beat players like Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer and others, but she is not resting on her laurels and looks determined to add more victories to her already-stunning profile.
The Japanese star displayed a solid performance in the last edition of the Evian Masters, as she made balanced strokes and kept her rivals at a distance.
The last round of the tournament turned into a pitched battle that saw American Stacy Lewis shoot some explosive strokes. However, Miyazato managed to sideline Lewis by two strokes, as she fired an overall 273.
Her performance in the last tournament, US Women’s Open 2012, should also be taken into consideration when predicting how she is going to fare against rivals in France.
Having gotten off to a sensible start at the third major tournament of the current season, played at Kohler, Miyazato did not seem to be under pressure at all.
Despite a strong field that featured players like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Mika Miyazato, Brittany Lang, Michelle Wie, Lydia Ko, Azahara Munoz and Suzann Pettersen, the LPGA giant did not falter and played a natural game throughout the four days.
She posted an overall 296 to finish tied for the 28th position on the leaderboard. Analysts said that Miyazato showed at Kohler that she is resilient and confident.
She not only battled big names like Tseng with ease, but also sweltering heat that made it difficult for players to play comfortably.
Speaking to the media during the major tournament, the rising star said that she did not let her nerves overcome her, and kept putting pressure on rivals.
