Ai Miyazato snatches second-round lead in Florida
Japanese Ai Miyazato performed well in the second round of the CME Group Titleholders 2012, as she carded a massive 64 to snatch the lead on Friday.
The second round of the four-day event at The TwinEagles Club, Florida, saw Miyazato clobber her way into the solo lead position after she fired nine birdies—something that helped her gain
a considerable edge over her nearest rivals.
South Korean Na Yeon Choi was also one of the star performers on Friday as she shot a 68 in the round to take the second position.
Miyazato got off to a little slower star than most of the favourites for the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament. She carded a 70 in the first round on Thursday and took
the share of 16th position with nine other contenders.
Miyazato started the round on Friday with full confidence as she launched a birdie on the first hole. She, however, faltered on the second hole as she fumbled a par-putt to record a bogey.
She then sent the crowd buzzing with cheers after she sank three straight birdies from the par-5 5th to 7th hole.
On the back nine, the rising star pulled a similar stunt as she reeled off another three consecutive birdies on the 12th, 13th and par-5 14th hole.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, Miyazato said that she held her nerve throughout the day, which helped her remain in contention till the end.
“I played really sold today all day, all day until the last hole,” said the LPGA titan who has notched up a total of nine LPGA titles so far in her professional career.
Miyazato went on to say that she focused on her short game, as the greens were quite challenging. “My putting was really good.  I made so many great putts and even par putt.  I had really
solid putts many times, so feels good”.
Her aggressive assault on the greens in the second round did the trick and she has now put herself in a more comfortable position. It is expected that the Japanese star will keep the momentum
going in the final two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
