Ai Miyazato unhappy after missing the chance to grab her first major title
Ai Miyazato, who sought to prove her worth in the first major title of the season, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, was disappointed when she saw her leaderboard position slip to 56th.
Despite exhibiting a sloppy performance in the major event, Japanese Miyazato was a little relieved that her world ranking remained unchanged. She is currently standing at 7th in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Miyazato’s professional career has been phenomenal right from the start, as she recorded several victories in prestigious tournaments.
Despite performing well in most of the events she has participated in, the Japanese star has not been able to record a victory in major championships.
Analysts said that she had a good opportunity to record her first major triumph at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
The Kraft Nabisco Championship was played at the Mission Hills Country Club and featured a strong field, comprising LPGA giants, such as the current world number one Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer.
The final outcome of the Championship surprised many golf fans, as the hot favourite Tseng finished third.
Miyazato racked up 7 wins on the LPGA Tour. In addition to the LPGA, she proved her mettle at the Ladies European Tour and LPGA of Japan Tour too, winning 2 and 15 triumphs, respectively.
The world number 7 kicked off the major event in a decent style, as she recorded 71. However, her performance worsened after the first round, as she faltered on most of the holes.
She appeared to be in the worst form in the final round, as she carded an unimpressive 76. She registered only two birdies on the leaderboard and made 4 bogeys and one double-bogey.
Analysts said that although Miyazato’s ranking was unhurt after the major championship, she needs to focus more on her putting that once used to be her trademark.
The 26-year-old star rose to fame in the 2012 season, as she recorded 4 victories on the LPGA Tour. Her magic performance boosted her world ranking to the 1st.
Before Kraft Nabisco Championship, Miyazato tried to prove her mettle in the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup.
She came close to winning the Cup, but some lapse caused her settle for the runner-up position. Experts said that the j*p was stunning, as she fought the rough weather, reflecting her resilience.
