Aidan O’Brien hopeful of winning Meld Stakes with Mars – Horseracing News
Aidan O’Brien is hopeful that his trainee Mars will be able to deliver a strong result in the Group 3 Jockey Club Of Turkey Meld Stakes at Leopardstown in Ireland.
A total of seven runners have been attracted towards the event, but Mars is the outright favourite to succeed. He has been given a general starting price of 4 to 7 by the bookies, which clearly suggests that he is going to be the
dominant stallion of all. Most of the punters will be gambling money on him, but some of them might think of any other option, which could either drown them or pay solid dividends.
However, looking at the overall situation and the ground conditions, it seems that no one will be able to come anywhere closer to the favourite challenger, who has been representing his camp in some major competitions.
According to O’Brien, “We haven't done a lot with Mars since his third-place finish in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown but we're happy with him. He's dropping down in grade after a few runs in Group 1s and we're hoping for a good
performance.”
Although the three-year-old colt has not participated in a lot of races, he knows how to handle pressure at the highest level. He has not enjoyed the amount of success his team would have wanted, but there is still no doubt on
his potential. However, he will need to win a lot more races in order to prove his quality to one and all.
At the moment, the Irish challenger has registered only one victory in the sport whereas secured the third spot on the same number of times. Other than that, his performances have been pretty much ordinary, which means that he
requires some hard work to be able to compete against the best.
Other than Mars, O’Brien will be looking to win another race with his challenger Expedition, but he will be given a tough time by Exogenesis, whose trainer Ger Lyons said, “He came out of his course and distance win well and this
looked an obvious race in which to step him up in class. He's a really nice horse and if he produces what he showed last time then he should be thereabouts.”
