Aidan O’Brien might cut his line-up from five runners to two for the Investec Derby
Aidan O’Brien might run two of his runners in the Investec Derby, sticking only with Camelot and Astrology, and leaving out Imperial Monarch, Father Of Science and Tower Rock out of the line-up.
Nothing is certain where jockey Joseph O’Brien will take control of Camelot while Ryan Moore will mount Astrology.
Regarding this decision, the trainer said:
"Camelot and Astrology will represent us in the Derby. Joseph [O'Brien] rides Camelot and Ryan [Moore] will be on Astrology. Decisions about the other three colts we have in the race - Imperial Monarch, Father Of Science and Tower Rock - will be made
in the morning.”
Camelot, son of Montjeu, out of mare Tarfah, recently claimed a magnificent victory in the Group 1 Qipco 2,000 Guineas Stakes, and is the odds-on favourite for the race.
Astrology, who is under the ownership of D. Smith, Mrs. J. Magnier, and M. Tabor does not lack talent, and has proved his worth with a victory in the Group 3 Stobart Barristers Dee Stakes at Chester, where he raced with a 11-10 shot, and defeated Oxford
Charley by a tremendous margin of 11 lengths.
Things are really looking up for the three-year-old bay colt, who had an amazing start to the season.
O’Brien has plans for the other three runners as he commented:
"There is a possibility that Imperial Monarch might go to Chantilly for the Prix du Jockey Club on Sunday instead while we are having further blood tests done on Father Of Science and Tower Walk. We will make all those decisions before declaration
time in the morning."
Imperial Monarch, son of Galileo, out of mare Ionian Sea, has shown what he is made of in his two starts which he conquered.
The three-year-old competed at Sandown in his seasonal debut andbanked on his status as race favourite with a  11-8 chance, and swiftly made progress on the track, when he defeated, Thought Worthy by 1 ¾ lengths in the Group 3 Bet365 Classic Trial
on 28th April, 2012.
A.P O’Brien has already saddled two Derby winners and will be counting on Camelot and Astrology to bring home the third title.
