Aidan O’Brien yet to decide So You Think’s jockey for the Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp
Aidan O’Brien has still not been successful in selecting a jockey for his stable star, So You Think, for next Sunday’s Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp. He is relaxed about choosing the most competent jockey as A P O’Brien is confident that a week
is sufficient for meeting the purpose.
The Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe which is more popularly known as the “Arc” is a Group 1 flat race in France open to thoroughbreds aged three years and older at Longchamp over a distance of 2,400 metres and it is held each year usually on the first Sunday in
October. It is the most prestigious horse race held in Europe and also qualifies for the most renowned international events in any sport.
The last year’s achiever of the title for the Arc was Sir Michael Stoute’s Workforce with jockey Ryan l. Moore, the winner was under the ownership of Prince Khalid Abdullah.
In 2010 it was Steven Arnold who rode So You Think to victory five times and to a third position just once. Then he won the Curragh with Seamie Heffernan and then was mount for Ryan Moore twice, once winning and second in the Ascot. Since July 2011 Seamie
Heffernan took over again and posted two winnings straight away. So You Think is a versatile horse with experience of different jockeys.
A P O’Brien already does have options in his mind as Ballydoyle said:
"St Nicholas Abbey and Seville are in there as well and normally we'd decide (on jockeys) in the middle of the week”.
"We usually wait until they do their last piece of work, test them the following day and then if everything comes up good, then there's a meeting and the boys decide that”.
A P O’Brien is being only wise to take time with deciding upon such an important factor and just not rushing through it as it is vital for a horse to have a compatible jockey in order to be successful in the race. Eventually it would not be a difficult or
confusing decision as the jockeys themselves would be eager and excited to ride the champion across the wire!!
