Aidan O’Brien’s charge Cristoforo Colombo to land the Coventry Stakes
Cristoforo Colombo is gaining popularity in the market for the Coventry Stakes at the Royal Ascot on 19th June, 2012, which covers a distance of six furlongs.
Based on the performance from his maiden, the two-year-old runner is expected to perform in the same manner.
Coral has made the son of Henrythenavigator, out of mare La Traviata, the favourite for this race with the winning odds of 7-2. Previously he was given the winning odds of 6-1.
The Aidan O’Brien trained bay colt claimed the victory in the first start of his career in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden at Navan on 20th May, 2012, where he defeated the T. Stack trained, Scream Blue
Murder, who raced as the favourite.
Under the guidance of jockey J.P. O’Brien, the Mrs. John Magnier owned runner blazed through the track, and bagged the victory by a margin of 1 ½ lengths.
Regarding this young runner, Coral’s representative David Stevens said to the press that:
"Cristoforo Colombo won his maiden at Navan nicely enough last month, but the money we've seen for the colt suggests the required step up in class next week will be well within his grasp."
Cristoforo Colombo comes from a pedigree of great runners, which contributes to his appeal for this race since his sire, Henrythenavigator, landed the Coventry Stakes back in 2007.
The colt may have inherited the same kind of skill, which he will have a chance to exhibit in this race.
Dawn Approach, the chestnut colt trained by J.S. Bolger, will also be racing in this event, and he might give, Cristoforo Colombo, a serious run for his money.
The son of New Approach, out of mare Hymn Of The Dawn, has competed in three starts and emerged triumphant from all of them.
The two-year-old entered the Tally Ho Stud European Breeders Fund 2yo Maiden at Curragh on 25th March, 2012, as the evening’s favourite, and lived up to expectations when he defeated the P.J. Prendergast trained, Canary Row,
by 1 ¾ lengths.
On 4th June, 2012, Dawn Approach excelled in the Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes at Naas, where he raced as a favourite.
