The Ireland International tips the Moscow-based club to claim the second-spot in their respective UEFA Champions League group after defeating the Scottish giants
Spartak Moscow midfielder-c*m-winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aiden-McGeady-c4091, was a part of the Celtic team that defeated the Moscow-based club during the 2007-08 UEFA Champions League campaign on penalties.
The Scottish giants managed to claim a 1-1 draw at Luzhniki stadium before drawing the return-leg of the third qualifying round with a similar result at home. However, they progressed to the group stages after knocking the Russian
outfit out of the tournament.
McGeady, who went on to join the Red-whites back in 2010 after being impressed by the Russian Premier League club in the continental tournament, has expressed his excitement over playing against his former club.
The Ireland International revealed that the Spartachi will find it extremely difficult to outplay their next rivals in the Champions League, saying that the hoops have a decent track record in the tournament.
The fact that Scottish Premier League club, Rangers FC, failed to qualify for the European cup this season disappoints McGeady, who lamented their absence, saying that the Light blues dropped down to the third division following
bankruptcy.
“Of course, this is a very unusual situation. But Celtic, in contrast to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 in recent years, developed into a challenging European team. The Rangers dominated the Scottish league for quiet some years but I don’t think
Celtic have taken too much advantage of their absence.” The Scottish Cup winner was quoted as saying.
McGeady is of the belief that Spartak have a decent chance to reach the later stages of the European cup despite being drawn against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SL-Benfica-c40542 in the group stages this time around.
"I am glad I got a chance to play against my former club. I came to Celtic at the age of 12, grew up there, and remained their best player in one season. So, I have wonderful memories there. But now I play for Spartak and will
do anything possible to win the match.” He concluded.
Spartak will play the European match after playing the league tie against Amkar Perm this weekend.
