Aidy Boothroyd rules out January signings
Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has ruled out signing any additional players this January.
Boothroyd says he did the majority of his rebuilding in the summer. The club currently sits in 11th place in the Championship table and is well positioned for an assault on the play-offs by the end of
the season.
"I don't think we need any players, I think we're okay.
I think we've got good players who are growing and getting better as a team and I'll just be happy to have a settled team again," Boothroyd told the club's Sky Blues Player.
The manager insists that it will be far better to work with the large squad of players he has to make them a more efficient team that is harder to beat. The loan market
stays open much longer than the main transfer window, which will always give Boothroyd another option.
"That's all I really want because I know, with the work that we do, we'll
keep getting better and growing as an outfit," he added.
Boothroyd is not a manager who will sign players for the sake of signing players. He will only use that loan market if the club picks up a ridiculous number of injuries.
Coventry has good young fringe players ready to come into the team, which means there is no need to make extra signings. These fringe players will be chomping at the bit to have
a run in the Championship side. Boothroyd seems to believe that it's better to have hungry players experienced with the club as opposed to new faces that aren't completely necessary.
"What it really is about now is getting the players fit, keeping them fit and making
sure we've got players to come on when others lose form," said Boothroyd.
Betting advice
The busy winter period is going to be crucial for Coventry. Have a bet on the club going up to the Premier League by the end of the season. However, a more realistic bet
could be for the side to make a play-off position.
