Aikman to enthral at Doncaster - Beginners’ Chase Preview
The Doncaster horseracing course will host 32red Casino Beginners’ Chase at 2:25 on Wednesday, February 22. With a big prize money worth of £3,249, it will be a Class 4 race of 3m distance.
There are total eight entries for the event including Aikman, Master Fiddle, Midnight Charmer, Moscow Mule, Quentin Collonges, The Cockney Mackem and Noble Legend.
None of these runners has recorded any decent victory in recent past; however, there are three geldings who seem to be in relatively favourable positions to walk away with the top three ranks in today’s competition.
Here, we take a bird’s eye view of the career lists of the trio in a bid to determine why they stand above all.
Aikman
James Ewart’s black gelding has been registering some elegant performances since last few months. After winning a couple of consecutive races during February 2011, the eight-year-old runner bagged a marvellous victory in the month of October.
During November, the J D Gordon-trained gelding finished 2nd and 3rd in two back-to-back races. As a whole, he has won 4 out of his total 11 starts to date.
Aikman is going to run at Doncaster for the very first time in his career. As per his stats and capabilities, he is likely to show a big run today, having 90 percent chances to stand first. However, his unfamiliarity with the ground may cause some problem.
The Cockney Mackem
Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, the veteran black gelding has also been performing nicely, though not won, since September 2011. After finishing 2nd in two races each in September and October, the six-year-old grabbed 3rd position
at Ludlow on December 8. On January 19, 2012, he again stood 2nd in a big contest at Taunton.
Overall, the gelding has just one victory to his credit. However, his career portrait reveals that he possesses enough talent. At Doncaster today, he is expected to deliver well again and notch up at least 2nd spot.
Master Fiddle
Following his 4-lenght clean victory in March 2011, the champion trainer Nicky Henderson’s talented gelding finished 3rd in a tough race on April 15. In his last outing on January 9, 2012 at Taunton, the 6-4 favourite runner stood 4th.
By and large, the seven-year-old has won 2 out of his total 8 starts so far. If he runs to his best today, he has 80 percent chances to bag at least third top spot.
Conclusion
There is going to be a tough competition among the above trio today. Each of the three possesses enough fighting spirit. However, Aikman has the highest chances to pick up the Beginners title. Good luck to all the runners.
