Aim to help Kolkata win IPL, and South Africa win World Cup: Jacques Kallis – Cricket News Update
South Africa’s veteran all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692, has expressed the desire to lead his Indian Premier League team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, to a season win, after which he aims to help his national team lift the World Cup 2015.
“My primary target is to help Team Kolkata win the IPL. But when it comes to international commitments, I want to win the World Cup for South Africa,” he said in an interview with
Times of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The 36-year-old forms part of the top-order for the Kolkata Knight Riders, but has not managed to make any substantial contributions in the two matches the team has played so far in the ongoing IPL5.
The Knight Riders’ first season match took place on April 5 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Laxmi-Shukla-c1829
remaining the top scorer with 26.
The next match was similarly dismal, with the Knight Riders failing to contain the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals as they racked up a substantial 164 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 8. Kallis was again disappointing, managing just 5 off 8 deliveries before
he was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amit-Singh-c44048, and the Knight Riders found themselves all out at 142 – 22 runs short of the target.
However, the right-hander remains undeterred, and along with an IPL win, has his sights set on a World Cup victory for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, despite the fact that he will be 40 years old by the time the tournament rolls around. This puts a big question mark on his
participation, but he is convinced he is still at the top of his game.
“No, I have no such plans,” said Kallis, when asked about his retirement. The batsman, who was part of the Proteas side that lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the World Cup 2011 quarter-final in Dhaka, went on to add that his cricketing career had involved all kinds
of success, except a World Cup win.
“I think I still have three to four years of cricket left in me … This IPL is important for me as far as fitness is concerned.”
“All my life, I have walked on to the field as a fully fit cricketer, and I want to maintain it throughout. My aim is to stay fit during the IPL and then focus on other commitments.”
