Aimee Watkins set to play her 100th match for New Zealand tomorrow, June 16, 2011
Aimee Watkins, the skipper of New Zealand Women Cricket Team which is also known as White Ferns, is all padded up to play her 100th ODI game against Australia on Thursday, June 16, 2011.
After this game, she will join the elite 100 club as the sixth woman player of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
The female cricketer is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-Muchall-c1499 excited over the prospect and said, “Obviously it is a proud moment for me and not something many others have achieved so I'm excited about it.”
She further elaborated, “I've always taken a great deal of pride and pleasure in playing for my country, so this game is going to be memorable.”
Watkins will be the 6th female cricketer to have added 100 matches to her portfolio, after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Emily-Cecilia-Drumm-c55964.
This marvellous accomplishment will be historic in the skipper’s life as she has already indicated to quit the White Ferns leadership after playing this season.
Watkins revealed on June 10, “I've been playing internationals for 10 years, so I've had a pretty good run and there are other things I want to do, including getting a fulltime job.”
The 28-year-old all-rounder staged her international debut in 2002 and elevated to captaincy very soon with her excellent game skills.
Watkins has played 2 Tests, 32 T20Is and 99 ODIs so far with 15, 714 and 1742 runs to her credit.
Watkins is confident about her 100th game tomorrow, aiming to gift a victory to her side, she exclaimed, “My http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Try-c94438 to add another century tomorrow and help get a victory for the team.”
Tomorrow's game will be the final clash of the 6-match ODI series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 Women and New Zealand women. Australians lead the series 3-2, however, the White Ferns captain will strive hard to level the series by beating the Kangaroo side.
Appearing on the international stage in 1935, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/White-c96514 Ferns have played 45 Test and 232 ODIs so far. They won the 2000 edition of World Cup as well.
