Aiming Higher!? How to Step Up the Game?

I'm a current high school student, going to my junior year, my school's coach been replaced this year and I been playing in varsity the over time but there is something bothering me. He said I need to tryout again. I been playing varsity all whole high years. Then I noticed that I been slacking, but the double 1 spot is open because our best doubles player graduated. I'm a power baseliner and an okay volley. How do I improve without getting a coach and without a rally partner? (because he is usaually busy.)

  1. Well, if there's no way to get a rally partner (which is usually the best option), backboards are probably the perfect training tool. You can use either a real backboard or just any flat wall.

Backboards help your volleys by training you to move your feet, get a quicker reaction time, and better volley technique.

Remember if you're training without a coach that muscle memory is really important, so try to hit every single volley with perfect technique, and move your feet.

Try to get about 20 forehand volleys in a row and increase it by 5 or 10 everyday. I would recommend practicing volleys for about 30 minutes daily.

You can also practice hitting ground strokes against the backboard, but it already sounds like you don't need much practice there.
