are if you are not Ja'can but come from the Caribbean,do you fell proud for Jamaica's at moment for putting the world's eye's on the Caribbean Region for the positivity that the sprinting Greats from Jamaica are doing in Beijing China.

I'm Ja'can living in the UK,and they want to know what we have on the Island that producing so much great athlete,we are conquering the world of sprinting, yet with more world record form Usain "lightinng" Bolt and not to mention V.Campbell and Melaine Walker in the 400m hurdling.

Sarah T....I've taken this qoute from your question that "Jamaica is poverty stricken" let me tell you this and read very carefull.Jamaica is one of the richest place in the Caribbean to live, with place's like Beverly Hills, and yes it's the same has the one in a America. Not to mention Jax Hills,Red Hills,Cherry Gardens,Mona Heights just to name a few.Get a life, are some education, how could you think that Jamaica and Antigua are the same Country, that shows that you ignorant's and lack of knowledge.

Poverty are every where,if everyone was rich, then no one will ever work, could you imagin the world with no one working,a bet you could, cuase it sound like, you don't work, but living of government benifit's.Poverty are in the UK as well if any one watch the show called "Secret Millonaire" you will see what am talking about.

Jamaican people or Caribbean people,it doesn't matter about the little that we have, our Culture and our atmosphere will always be on top......big up all Ja'can..weh me sey No Linga...I man stop drink White Rum,A straight Appleton Gold me a drink................bless

  1. As a Jamaican living in Jamaica, I can honestly say it is a blessing living in Jamaica.  We have our problems, but who doesn't?  And yes, we have poverty-stricken areas, but we also have areas occupied by the rich and famous.  Naomi Campbell has a home here, so does Ralph Lauren.  And they don't maintain shacks on the beach!  There are rich and poor people everywhere, and there are poverty stricken areas in the USA, too.  Sometimes when you see these features on TV, it's frightening.

I attribute our gold medals to our diet - cassava, yellow yam, renta yam, sweet yam, dumplings of every size & description, green & ripe banana, 'tinkin' toe, gizzarda, rice & peas, scotch bonnett pepper, jerk pork, I could go on and on!  Seriously, though, our food is less processed and takes a shorter time to get from the ground/tree/vine to our plates.  You don't have to wait on customs to clear the ripe East Indian/St. Julian.  Either you have a tree or your neighbour has one.  It's guinep season now.

And don't forget we have more churches per square mile than anywhere else on earth.  When di Olympics a gwaan, every body a pray.  And then there are those of us who are righteous year-round and praying.  God big!  And He likes when those who win glorify Him so we will keep doing well this time around because everyone thus far (except maybe Usain) has been glorifying Him (at least here at home where they are interviewing the family).

  2. As someone who occasionally visits Jamaica, I too am very proud of the "Fastest Man on Earth"!  Can't wait to tell you all in person.  YEAH JAMAICA!

YES YES!  I am proud to be Jamaica.  I live in Jamaica and ALL h**l HAS BROKEN LOOSE HERE.  We are happy and proud of our olympic team.  This for the detractors in the US who are taking at Usain.  BUN OUT BADMIND.  Him can showboat all him want. He is number 1 of course.  Him can beat him chest if him want, he can dance and gwaan bad. THAT IS THE JAMAICAN WAY.  We DO NOT care about bad mind American people.  U r just poor losers who cannot be happy for anyone else.  We celebrate and dance and beat wwi chest when we happy in Jamaica and that is what Usain did.  U nah go mek it u bad mind!
