Aiptek Camcorder to pc/youtube windows movie maker?

i have a high definition aiptek camcorder and I can't find a way to edit in windows movie maker. I have the card inserted into a cord sort of thing and it shows up on my computer as a .mov file. this plays in windows media play but if i save it to another folder it won't play. Although youtube supports .mov i want to edit my video and windows movie maker doesn't support it. I've tried downloading a different media player but the video won't play. I've tried converting it using www.media-convert.com into a .wmv file. It says it's successfully converted but it won't play on windows media player or import into windows movie maker. I went to the aiptek site and it recommends to edit it using a bunch of software that costs money. I'm pretty smart with computers but I can;t figure out to do it. I want to do with with as little as software as possible or purchasing any editing software. please help
