Question:

Air Conditioner Question... I need some help?

I just purchased a $500 A/C not too long ago. I can't return it because it's been over 30 days. It's not for a window sliding up and down but a window sliding side to side. It's a canister/sliding one so it sticks out of the window pretty far and it's heavier than most regular A/Cs for vertical windows. You have to drill it in place so there is no chance of it falling. Now here is the problem. I am moving to an apartment, 2nd story out of 3. I can't drill. What can I do to secure it? The only thing I can think of is sell it. Which I would lose a lot of money because no one will buy it for anywhere near that much. Any ideas?

  1. Could you build a wooden saddle for the window sill, that would support the unit without having to s***w the saddle to the building?  Think of a capital T with the long leg outside against the building, a hook where the serif would be on the inside to keep it from slipping out.

Measure carefully, and build this T as wide as the ac and the ac can on it and perhaps be screwed to.  Or wait till the landlord is gone and s***w it to the building, but plan on loosing your security deposit if you do this.

  2. When you say drill... do you mean you need to pre-drill a hole for a s***w?

Anyhow, if you need to mount the a/c unit with any hardware, you can use some strong adhesive typically sold at Lowe's or HomeDepot.

  3. After its in the window put a block of wood between the top of the window and the top of the window frame.

  4. Mine had brackets, I fastened the brackets to the air con sleeve and the other side of the brackets just rested on the siding. The air con total weight was 96 pounds, stayed in place for 8 years.

  5. Go to different hardware stores. Some of them may have a device to hook it up properly. Just tell the sales person your problem.
