Ok my question is simple it may sound dumb to some but have to ask anyways. I bought a 18000 BTU air conditioner and found out after I open the box that I need a 3 prong wall outlet. I dont have any outlet in the house like that. The Manual state no extension cord or adaptor. What can I do so I can have this air conditioner install in the house? Our can I get Surge Protector with a 3 prong outlet?

  1. YOU CAN HAVE ONE INSTALLED BY A ELECTRICIAN

  2. For this size unit you'll need a 230 volt outlet.  You can't use a normal 120 volt outlet because they wouldn't be able to handle the current required (about 43 amps at 120 volts).  You'll need to have an electrician install an outlet for you where the cord on the A/C unit can reach it.
