Air Conditioners for the window?

I have an air conditioner for my window that a friend gave me. My question is since it doesn't fit my window side ways like it should can I turn it the other way and run it without any problems?

No, these units are designed to run in one direction only, and tipping them can cause the oil to plug the capillary tubes and ruin the compressor.

I hope this helps just cut out a board the extra size you need  preferably a plywood board purchased at home depot.. to fit the size needed
