Hello all. I'm just dropping by to ask if anyone here is remotely familiar with the policies of Maxwell Gunter Air Force Academy regarding corresponding with family and friends via phone, email, letters etc.?

My boyfriend of seven months left at the beginning of of this month for Officer's training in in Montgomery, Alabama and I haven't heard much from him except for a few seemingly hasty text messages. In one he said he couldn't be on the phone much but he would try to call me, but then he didn't. I understand that he's very busy and that what's he doing is important but is he allowed to even have his cellphone? It looks like they possibly took his computer as well because he hasn't been on his myspace or anything else since before he left. Either that, or his use is just being carefully monitored and regulated like everything else there.

I know I may sound a little ignorant/naive but I really want to know...what can I expect for the next few months? I would love to even write him a nice letter but I don't even know where to send it!

Any feedback and info would be much appreciated. =)

  1. If he does not call you in the final week of his training, then one might wonder if you have a future with him. Don't worry till then. Good luck.

  2. I myself was an Air Force officer in the medical field. At the Academy, they are permitted to make calls and use computers. However, what they do on the computers is strictly monitored and some websites (MySpace) are blocked. The cadets are usually extremely busy with their studies. They rarely get a chance for R&R and when they do, all they want to do is sleep and study.

As long as your bf isn't doing anything else that would be classified as secret, he should be able to at least send home a few letters a week. You can contact the Academy and request the information you need to mail him. Be sure to address the letter properly, otherwise he won't get it. You can ask the Academy how to do this. The number for the USAF Academy is as follows: 1-800-443-9266 or (719) 333-2520. However, I think from the location you gave, you would be talking about Air University. (Small difference). That number would be (334) 953-1110

  3. As far as I can tell, he is not in a sensitive course, so he should be able to have his computer and his cellphone with him. He may not be allowed to take the cellphone to class, if he is in a secure building, but he should be able to correspond with you on a regular basis.
