Ok so I want to join the Air Force, Ive already done all the paperwork, havent gone to MEPS yet, but looking to go to Basic in January. My questions is what should I do to get ready? I understand that the majority of Basic is a mind game, pushing yourself to get past your fears... my fear is the physical component. Anyone gone through the Air Force P/T who can give me any suggestions on how to train or what diet to follow for now. Ive got a lil weight to loose before i go, but I am very determined, just scared ****less!!! Any suggestions??

  1. Hi. I'm A1C. McQueen USAF;

You've pretty much got a good idea of the Air force, its a mind game, so here's what i'm going to spare you to help you keep the T.I.'s (Training Instructors) on your side.

    1. Cut your hair before getting there, WORK AS A TEAM!

    WITH FELLOW AIRMEN.

    2. Remember your Reporting Statement, "Sir/ma'am  Trainee {Your Last Name}Reports as order"

    3. Know your Core Values (Integrity, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do)

    4. Learn & know your Chain of Command (This is essential for when tested, and while walking and coming across officers such as captains, Lt.Colonels and Generals, etc)

    5. Make sure your parents dont send you any type of gifts or food through the mail, it will get you chewed out. ( it happened to one of my guys when i went through..lol.. must admit it was funny..

    6. Which brings me to another statement, don't laugh at another airmen if he is getting chewed out by the t.i.,

    7. Now for your diet stay away from sweets' it will set you back on your progression in the physical program.(GET IN SHAPE & STAY IN SHAPE!)

    8. Bring your own running shoes, the one they issue SUCKS!!

    9. Know your Facing movements because t.i. are always looking.

    10. DURING BREAKFAST & LUNCH DO NOT PILE FOOD ON YOUR TREY;  B/C YOU WONT HAVE BUT 3 OR 5 MINUTES TO EAT OK!! B/C YOU DO A LOT OF RUNNING AFTER EATING.. ENOUGH SAID.

    11. But if its Dinner, then you should have all the food you want, though you will have the same time to eat but you'll get more as you progress through the weeks. Hint: you want be exercising after 1800(6pm) and also do not reach for the sweets in the dining facility!

    12. FORGET ABOUT YOU RECRUITER WHEN YOU GET THERE!! HE/SHE IS NO LONGER TO HELP YOU.

13.There's more but these are the most important. ALSO IF YOUR RECRUITER HASN'T SHARED THESE FACTS WITH YOU THEN HE DOESN'T LIKE YOU.

P.S. - ALSO ASK RECRUITER ABOUT R.A.P.S. after tech school..if he/she denies it then once again YOUR RECRUITER DOESN'T LIKE YOU.

if you have more question ask. me..

  2. Here are the stats I have found it has been six years since I have went through the program and a lot of things have changed but if you work on it a little before you go in it helps but BMT trains you to pass it so don't really worry about that if you do what they say it is cake and anyone can complete the training but here is what I found

    Run(2 mile) 16:45 min

    Run(1.5 mile) 11:57 min

    Push-ups 45

    Sit Ups 50

One extra tidbit when you get there and the TI ask what job you want or if you like bowling turn it down.

  3. Won't matter if anyone here has been or not. Not only are they changing it from 6.5 weeks to 8.5 weeks in November but they are adding all kinds of new programs and classes. The Air Force BMT(Basic Military Training) is going to better equip the Airmen now. Teach them more on weapons, doing more running and exercises.

All in all it's around 75% classroom time. Learn the History, ranks, insignia's,etc os the Air Force because you'll need it.
