I know it is currently 6 weeks, is going to 8 weeks starting Nov, and is located in Texas. My question is however how tough is it physically(So I can be prepared). I know it's not the Marines or Army, but it's still boot camp.

Also how many phones calls do you get(I know you have to earn them as well but how many on average and are you given a select amount to start off with), and how long are the phone calls?

how often do you get your mail and get to write letters, etc.

  1. Not hard at all physically.  On a scale of 1-10 I would say about a 4.  No you do not get to ride bikes for PT.  As far as the eight week thing, we have been hearing this for years, it is nothing new.  We will believe it when/if it does happen.  You only get one phone call during the first week to let someone know you are there.  After that it is all up to your TI.  As far as writting again it is all up to your TI.

  2. On a scale 1 to 10 with 10 being Marine bootcamp, I'd rate Air Force 6. Do lots of running, and do pull ups to get upper body strength. That's all you'll need.

  3. Physically... it depends on what you think is hard.  Hopefully you're a runner, be ready to get up at 4:45 and run for 45 min.  I did a lot of push ups and flutter kicks... Ran with the duffle bag full of gear (I was in BMT in the summer so it was hot)... The physical stuff actually gets fun though.  It's probably more exercise than your used to.

I think bootcamp is hard... because you're treated like scum, and you obey orders so much, you forget what it's like just to smile, and you learn not to let your eye wander.

The TI determines how many phone calls you make.  Your first one, make sure you call someone who will be there, because that is when you give your family/friend your address, so they can write to you.  The rest... it just depends.  I got a few phone calls, but not a lot.  And I NEVER had a chance to write letters.  People would sneak letters out.  But it varies on your TI.

You'll be different when you get out of bootcamp, and it's not as easy as some of the answers you got state.  But a lot of people like to make fun of the Air Force.  Probably because we have it so good, so don't let that change how you feel about serving your country.  You made a good choice going into the Air Force.

  4. Let me give you a better idea of how tough airforce bootcamp is-

Have you ever been to summer camp? Yea. Pretty much like that. You even get to ride bikes for PT!

Your next question- you can write letters when ever you have free time. Thus, you'll probably be writing a lot of letters.

  5. You'll get maybe a couple phone calls a week, probably more as the weeks progress.  You'll also get mail every evening most likely.  As far as the physical aspect goes, get some good running shoes and get used to running at least a couple miles a day.  Also work on some push ups and maybe some calisthenics.  They won't have you running 8 miles in the first week, so there's no reason to be an Olympic athlete before you join, unless you really want to.
