We are moving to england in January of 2009. We will be at RAF Lakenheath. I want to attend the college on base (did some research online) and was wondering what it would be like price wise. I know it is impossible to give me a price, i was just wondering if since i am an AF spouse and attending college on base, is it cheaper than normal universities? Does being overseas make it even cheaper than if i were attending college on base? Any experience would help. I want to make sure i am well prepared for the cost budget. Thanks! and I hope you could semi understand this question. :)

  1. As a spouse, you are eligible to receive STAP which is a scholarship program that covers up to half of your tuition, as long as you attend a University that is sponsored by the base. All you have to do is turn in a form at the beginning of every term, and voila! free money.

  2. RAF Lakenheath has The University of Maryland on base as well as the University of Phoenix and Troy University (unless things have changed in the past couple years).  There are classes you can also do on-line.   I took two classes at the University of Maryland at Ramstien and paid $650 for 6 credit hours.  All the bases overseas are the same college-wise.

Here is the link to the University of Maryland University College at Lakenheath.  It can gives you a lsit of classes and contact numbers.

Good Luck.  You'll love the UK.  I did 8 years there and I never wanted to leave!!
