Air Force ROTC or Air Force National Guard/Reserves?

Whats going on everyone Im 19 and I know its the time for me to leave home and journey out and see what the world has to offer. The time to push myself to my limits and see what kind of character I have. I've decided that the Air Force is the place where Im going to do this.

I was going to enlist at first but then I came across the Air Force ROTC and the Air Guard/Reserve programs. Since I work on a military post everyone I've talked to encourages me to "Be an Officer, go to school and come in as an Officer!, Commissioned Officer is the way to go!" ROTC is the route I want to go to obtain my commission but Ive heard some say Guard/Reserves. Is there anyone out there who can give me their experiences from taking either of the two routes?

  1. I don't have any Air Force experience, but I do have Army experience.  I joined the Army National Guard before I started college and I enrolled in AROTC at my university.  I drilled with my ARNG unit once a month and learned the basics of how the Army worked, and during the week I learned leadership skills and how to be an Army officer.  When you get to your university try your hardest to get good grades so you can qualify for a scholarship (they offer 2, 3, and 4 year scholarships).

  2. my hubby is in the air guard and wouldn't change it for the world.  he's gone everywhere you can think (mainly b/c he volunteered to go) and loves it.  its paid for his college education and given us a few hundred extra bucks a month for drill weekends.  he's met a lot of close friends and over all it is great...even for me, there are a lot of spouse programs and we just got back from a weekend that the guard paid for and it was great!  i dont know about the whole officer thing, but you have to start somewhere.  I would suggest the guard.  its great for him and us and Im proud of him!!  good luck!
