Question:

Air Force SERE question

My cousin (female) was an aircrew member and went through SERE training around 2002. She wasn't quite the same when she got back and did not want to discuss anything about it. She's separated from the Air Force now but still doesn't say much about it. I'm sure some is classified but what do they do to the females that go through this training?

  1. Wiki has some information regarding the SERE course - as well as some helpful links.

It seems rather an intense course, and I would assume like everything in life, people get different experiences out of it.  I hope your cousin is ok.

  2. yea man even air  force cant talk bout it if she wont telll u bout it n private den u wont b able 2 find out

  3. Not allowed to discuss it. The Air Force came under some seroius flack back in the 80's for their SERE training for being too over the top. Don't know what it is like these days. I went through mine in the Marines back in '84.

  4. Navy and Air Force SERE is classified "Secret". I went through it in the Navy. I will always keep operational security as I am a patriot.

What I can tell you is this:

It is very intense. You believe, really believe it is real while you are doing it.

It takes a toll on you mentally and physically, even for special warfare/ops guys!

Anyone who is in high risk of capture must attend: All flight crews, special operations, SEAL, Special Boat etc.

It has been proven to be effective in saving lives.

It was created after lessons learned from the Vietnam War.

I'm sure you have seen POW war movies and read stories about POW camps...let your imagination run wild.

Lastly, you go to the school cocky as h**l and leave the school knowing exactly what your limits are...your "breaking point".

If your cousin is having trouble she needs what we call "shock trauma" therapy ASAP. Urge her to make an appointment, if she was honorably discharged she may even be eligible to see a VA therapist on the government dime since it was service connected. PTSD is covered as a disability.

    Good Luck

  5. In the U.S. Army, aircrews are now required to go through SERE-C. But like stated above, SERE is classified training.

    Return with honor!

  6. i won't say much about it but sere(survival, evasion, resistance and escape) f**ks u up, they get u ready to be a pow and/or be on the run behind enemy lines and they dont go any ezer on girls, i know a few ppl that losted because of that school

  7. It's a classified course. However, it isn't anything that is going to permanently mess up your head. It wasn't for me... but who knows, everyone is different.

  8. Everybody who goes to SERE have undergone the Code of Conduct that requires to have Top Security Clearance.  Whatever is on the internet is far as the details go.  Level "C" is the far most sensitive course that cannot be stressed enough when it comes to 'classified' content.  Although that all pilots and aircrew have undegone Level "B" and possibly "A", which almost all servicemembers will be instructed in.

After they have attended the course, they are given a  psychological evaluation after the events that has taken place in the duration of the course.  The Air Force has added a sexual harrasment school in the process where they be subjected to 'realistic' forms of sexual harrassment; it will put a shock to the females, but it is to give them an understanding that while they are in real captivity by the enemy, they will not have it as easy as the course outlined.  SERE is not made to degrade or maim servicemembers; It outlines the Article of Conduct that underlines every possible scenario if a servicemember is held in Prisoner of War Interrogation.  SERE is exists in the curriculum due to capture of 'sensitive personnel' who will carry valuable information that holds the integrity of many soldiers with lives at sake.

Sorry to the questionaire, but that is special compartmented information that no service member should violate!  Although there are minor course in SERE that are not in such much of violation, it is to be advised that it is in violation of securing special compartmented information.  The details of the course is something you cannot ask, nor will get a concrete answer.

NOTE: I guess the 'person' who thumbed me down didn't like my sarcasm earlier...I see he deleted his answer!  I didn't mean to be rude to him, but if he proclaimed of being a US Army Ranger, he would have known about the liability; therefore wouldn't had recieved such a negative feedback.
