  1. Yes, Tricare pays for some fertility costs, but your primary care doctor will need to refer you to a fertility doctor.  You can call Tricare to ask them what they will and won't cover.  The military also does reimburse you for adoption costs (up to 2k for one child and 5k for multiple children) after the adoption is finalized.  Adoption is a wonderful thing for both the adoptive parents and the child.  You can also get adoption tax credit, which I believe is up to over 11k, so if you do go the adoption route, save every single receipt.  Besides that, there are grants you can get, some states offer subsidies, etc.  You can view waiting children in the US foster care system at adoptuskids.org.  Raibbowkids.org has listings of US and international children.  Good luck on your journey.

  2. I have no idea if the armed forces have any assistance programs of this type.  I'd recommend adopting through the foster care system.  You don't have to be foster parents before hand (but you can if you want), and (as was a worry of another poster) you don't have to worry about the child being sent back to their parents.  The child's caseworker is not going to make an adoption plan unless and until it is absolutely guaranteed that parental rights will be terminated, or have been already.  Do some research and see what you think.  Infant adoption is by far not the only option, and it's far from the best.  If your desire is to be a positive part of a human being's life, you can't beat adopting through foster care.  If you just want to be parents, and aren't interested in the child's point of view...well, I won't even go there, because I'm sure you're in this because you want to be a positive part of a human being's life.

ETA: Oh, and adopting through foster care is free.

  3. jgf5822, tell that to the millions of orphans in the world!

girlie, where there is a will there is a way. You will find a way to either have a child or be able to adopt. Just keep trying ok? I believe its possible!

  4. please, please, please.......do not adopt.

    it ruins a person.

    please try the fertility path..............

  5. I am currently in the AF AD and we are adopting internationally. As stated by one of your answers the military does repay a portion of your expenses after the adoption is complete. The AD member will also receive uncharged leave in order to complete the adoption and bond with the child. Good luck, I will try to add a few links for your help.

  6. The air force will help you out with every thing but the fees.  I would look towards state grants, or foster care, so many children in foster care need help. States pay some amounts of money for help in that area.

That is my goal anyhow, foster care is a way to give back. Its not for the week at heart. You may have a child for a week or for months.
