My husband is going to join the AF in about a year and I was wondering how long it would take for us to be provided with housing? Would we get a house or apartment? We have a little baby boy.

  1. Depends on the base, availability of on base housing for his rank, length of the waiting list. You will be given an housing allowance to help pay for off base housing until something on base is open.

  2. Good chance that you would need to get on a Base Housing Waiting list.  In the meantime, you would rent an apartment.  You will be receiving BAS, BHA and VHA.   Substance allowance (food money),  Housing Allowance, and Variable Housing Allowance (varied rate depending upon location).

  3. Housing varies from place to place, and so does the waiting list.  any Unaccompanied orders he gets( Basic Training, schooling) you are not authorized on base housing.  waiting lists can be up to 2 years long.
