Air India beat PNB, 4-2 in All India Obaidullah Gold Cup: Hockey News
Air India defeated the Punjab National Bank (PNB) by 4-2 yesterday, on May 26, in the 65th edition of the All India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. This match took place at the Aishabagh Stadium in Bhopal, India.
The score was opened by the key striker from Air India, Shivendra Singh, in the 14th minute. Air India continued to dominate the field in the first half when Arjun Halappa advanced the team’s lead by a field goal in the 25th minute,
setting scores at 2-0.
In response to this goal, PNB’s striker Damandeep Singh was found rushing towards the defensive circle of Air India when he shot the ball home, reducing their trail to 2-1.

The first half closed with no more additions to the score-board with Air India in lead by 2-1.
During the second half, another score was added in by the Air India’s striker, Virendra Lakra, as a result of a field goal and the score lead advanced to 3-1.
Six minutes later, PNB’s Damandeep was back into action and he attempted a penalty corner, converting a goal to get scores to 3-2.
After some minutes of silence from both the goal ends, Air India’s captain, Sameer Dad received a pass from Halappa near the attack circle and made a tremendous shot home, increasing their lead at 4-2.
In the rest of the eight minutes, no teams could take up a potential scoring chance and the match ended with scores intact at 4-2, with a victory call for Air India.
In the meantime, an eighteen member men’s hockey squad was announced by the Manipur Hockey Association that will play the first edition of 2011 Hockey India Men’s Senior National Championship, starting off from June 10-19 at Bhopal.
The players will leave for Bhopal on June 4 under the leadership of Ksh. Ibopishak as manager, L. Tiken as coach and Kh. Biren Singh as the supporting staff.
The squad comprises of A. Himat, Ksh. Martun, K. Suresh, Ph. Arunkumar, N. Biken, L. Shitaljoy, M. Premchand, M. Chingkheinganba, L.Sidhartha Singh, Kh. Jayanta, Kh. Kothajit, L. Purnachandra, Kh. Rabikanta Singh, Ksh. Wangamba, L. Bikram, N. Abung and M.
Sanjaymani.
