I am joing the Air Force and will be doing five years. I will be an air traffic controller. I was wondering what level of job should expect in the civilian world. What kind of pay. What other credentials will I need?

  1. If you plan to enter ATC, and you are hired at a large facility, you should expect approx 90 - 100k as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) (current dollar values).  Your pay will be less during the transition/training period.  The major problem I see, is that five years from now, I expect controller hiring to slow drastically, since all of us old timers will have been replaced by then which may limit your odds of obtaining employment in the first place.

  2. ATC Outlook, 1,000 job openings per year over the next ten years.
