when you turn on the air conditioner the ac clutch won't spin until you tap the front of it with a s***w driver. I changed the ac clutch, but it still requires tapping to come on( tap only on the clutch itself) any helpfull hints would be great. thanks

  1. automotive air conditioning can be tricky. When you replaced the clutch did you also replace the clutch bearing? Sometimes that will come with the new clutch-sometimes not. There are several sensors that can go bad-check out your AC clutch cycling switch-its probably located on or near the AC dryer which is a cylinder shaped object. This swtich is relatively cheap-probably less than 10 bucks for your car. It went out on my wifes pontiac sunfire, causing my air conditioning to act up and not work at times.

Before you do buy anything else though go over everything you have done already. Make certain you dont have a loose wire somewhere near the AC compressor. Maybe a ground wire to the AC system is loose or not making a good connection which would cause it to only come on after you tap it.

  2. That man is right.  Little pins to the electrical contact get bent, vibrated, or heat expanded & shrunk, dirty or oily etc. and don't make proper contact.  Check the connection, clean and tighten.  Lastly, you may just about be needing freon.  $50 re-charge kit with gauges.

  3. the 1st to people on here are right on the spot check your connections and freon and if all els fails have it checked by a local shop
