Air conditioner compressor will not shut off.

Question

I have a 1 yr old Maytag window air conditioner. Problem is that the compressor will not shut off. When I turn off the unit, the lights on the panel turn off and the fan stops running, but the compressor keeps running. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. As soon as it is plugged back in the compressor starts. This causes it to build up ice over the coils until I unplug it or the circuit breaker trips. Any ideas on what is wrong with it?

i would think that unit would still be under warrenty

call for service and see what they say.

The contacts are stuck.Find what brings on the compressor(relay or contactor)and replace it.
