  1. Check the filter and make sure it is clean, make sure the coils are clean, and the fans are running, if not fix that thaw it out and restart, if so your probably low on freon.

  2. The most common problem would be a very dirty filter or something blocking the return air vent.  If you can hear the motor but there is no air, it's possible the evaporator has froze up due to no air flow caused by dirty filter etc.  Turn the ac switch to off as to not compound the problem by producing more ice.  Turn the fan to on, this will help melt the ice.  Some say don't do this as it will burn up the motor but I personally have never had this to happen to me.  After several hours hopefully you'll start feeling the air flow.  If you continue to try to use the ac it will never melt.  Other reasons could be a dirty evaporator, defective blower motor and/or low charge in your system.

  3. tur it off and let it defrost

  4. check the filter if it is blowing any air at all if it is trying to blow air it is 1dirty filter or2 low on freon and needs charging. if not blowing at all the fan moter has quit 1 moter burned up or 2 the start capasiter not working3 fan swith gone bad or4 got wireing problems.hope this helps!

  5. If you left it running for a while go catch it. then defrost it. with a water hose. Then put it on heating mode. Tell it a homestory then scratch my left ear. then it will work again.

  6. Dont turn the heat on, as the quick change in temperature will damage the coils. Sorta like putting a hot cookie sheet under cold running water... it will bend the metal.

Turn the compressor off, and just let the fan run... if it is warm in your house it will be defrosted in about an hour.

(This actually happened to me last night)

If your filter is dirty, that can be a cause... otherwise, it is either low on freon, too cold outside to work effeciently, or you have some other problem that needs to be addressed by a professional.

I would let it completely defrost, install a new filter, and keep a CLOSE EYE on it for at least the next week. If it starts to ice up again, time to call the AC repair man.
