  1. yes it has to be in a window.

it needs the air and such .

  2. When an AC runs, it blows cold air out the front and hot air out the back.  So if it is not put in a window, you are defeating the whole purpose.  The room won't get cool.

  3. The heat exchanger, which takes the heat and gets rid of it, must be outside the area you are trying to cool.  Otherwise, it is like leaving the fridge door wide open all the time.  You can mount it in a window (the easiest approach), or you can cut a hole in the outside wall and mount the A/C in that.

  4. As stated before, it really needs to be in a window, not only because of the hot air but, part of the condensation between the air temps causes water to drip. It has to be in a window where the water can drip outside. Otherwise, you will have a huge mess on your hands. Make sure the water drips away from the window, if not it will rot out the window sill and wall under the window.

  5. What most people don't know is the act of refrigeration is the removal of heat "Not the adding of cool" so yes it has to be installed in a window as designed. Also if you want to cool just that room you'll need to leave the door closed, because unless you bought a BIG one it can't remove the heat from your entire house. Plus it will never cycle off, which means the compressor will run all the time, and that's not what you want either. The compressor doesn't have to run all the time in order for it to cool your room, and drive your electric bill up. And yes it would leak in your floor because the evaporator coil is removing all the humidity from the room also.
