Air conditioner help please?

We had a new Air conditioner/heater unit installed 3 years ago, and it has been working fine... until now. When the air conditioner is on, trying to cool down the house, instead of releasing cold air, the air is hot, and humid, almost like the heater is on. There are no windows open, so it's nothing like that... it's the unit. What do you think could be wrong? Thanks.

Sounds like the return has fallen off in the attic and is pulling air from the attic.

sounds like it needs freon - have it checked

Could be the compressor is shutting down.It is possibly a plugged condensing coil on the outside unit.  Cleaning this and checking freon level could cure it. Lots of luck.

The same thing happened to me, my house is 3 years old and the air conditioner was new, I called the repair guy and he had to add freon.  So that is probably what it is.

electric heat? well you could have just that the heat strips coming on sequencers go bad the heat strips come on  if its a heat pump low on refrigerant will blow out heat either way you will have to call a tech if you are low on refrigerant they need to find and fix the leak 3 years is to soon for a leak might be bad weld or a-coil also get your condenser cleaned that helps your system

It may need freon but try this first. Turn it off when you leave the house for a couple of hours. Some times when it is hot outside air conditioners can actually freeze up due to the condensation they produce. After a couple of hours turn it back on you will get some hot humid air for a minute or tow but it should cool right down if not then I would investigate the freon situation.

See if the condenser is running.If it is,she could be froze up.

Run your fan by itself and turn your cool off for 30-45 minutes and then put her back to cool.If it starts cooling then,she was froze.

Check your filter and coil cleanliness.Good luck.
