Check the furnace filter, make sure the coil outside is clean, make sure both fans inside and outside are running, if all is good probably low on freon, if not let it thaw before restarting.

We had this happen in December to our heat pump.  It was due to an external thermostat controller/sensor that was supposed to regulate the de-icing of the external coils.  Call your local AC repair service.  It was a half hour fix on the outside unit of our house.

In the meantime, if you have a dual zone system, you can run your other system while this one de-ices.
